Deposits for Portrait Shoots

Wedding and portrait photo shoots Photography by Justin & Emily Krause Bridgwater Somerset photographer-03 copy We really didn’t want to do this but we are having to start taking £10 non-returnable deposits for portrait shoots from the start of the New Year. Similarly, any  Gift Vouchers that are booked need to be paid for in full before they are made up.

This is simply because over the last few months we’ve had shoots being cancelled last minute, people not showing up (not even calling to cancel) and people who have asked for Gift Vouchers not picking them up from the studio after we have called and emailed to say they are ready.

We value each and every customer and want to make sure you feel valued, having the best experience possible. We think this is one of the best ways to help provide this.

The deposit can be cash in the studio when you want to book or preferably by bank transfer where we can send you our account details via email.

We really didn’t want to do this but after consulting with other business owners and marketing advisors we feel there is no other option. We LOVE our work and we’d like to work for free but unfortunately it is a business from which we pay bills. Every time someone cancels last minute or doesn’t show for a shoot we are losing money. If  a customer can’t make a booked shoot we really do need ample notice so we can hopefully book others in their allotted time.

We have seen a number of other companies having to do the same in the last month including our friends over at South West Tinting and other photographers. Emily and I have been waiting around a number of times in the last couple of months for bookings who then call last minute, cancelling after we’ve been waiting for them or even worse, don’t even bother calling at all (even after we have tried to call to confirm on the mornings of the shoot). I’m sure you can understand it’s a complete waste of our time being sat in the studio when we could have others booked in those spaces.

Taking deposits for portrait shoots isn’t a bad thing though as it works both ways. From your point of view it essentially allows you to spread the cost of the shoot. We’ve have even had customers in the last few weeks who have WANTED to pay deposits which proves that people are willing to do this. For us it more or less guarantees our bookings will come in with less chances  of “no-shows” if there is the chance of losing a deposit. There are of course exceptions as to whether or not the deposit is lost but we reserve the right to decide upon the circumstances.
